「そして、モーゼはどもった」
　－　マイケル・ルイス作「The Blind Side（しあわせの隠れ場所）」より

聖書の「出エジプト記」第６章１２節にある。「しかしモーゼは神に言った。『もしイスラエル人が我が言葉を聴く耳をもたないとしたら、どうしてファラオが聴く耳をもつでしょう。我がくちびるは言葉のつまづくものとなりましょう』」

巨大な挑戦に向かいあうとき、つい言い訳をしてしまいがちだ。完遂できない可能性への言い訳。失敗するかも知れないことへの言い訳。

でも、ほとんどの場合、言い訳は雑音でしかない。転嫁のための小技だし、根拠のない不安をあらわすもの。現実には、能力が見合わないように見えても、乗り越えられないと思える障害があっても、身体を麻痺させるような不安に見舞われたとしても、あなたが出会う挑戦で難しすぎて無理だというものはかなり少ない。

どんなに不安だとしても、挑戦に見合う、そして乗り越えるだけの力を、あなたは持っているんだ。ただ、とにかく一歩前に踏みださなくちゃいけない。そして不安の疑念を超えて、リスクを背負うんだ。モーゼはやった。あなたにもできる。

"And Moses Stuttered" - from The Blind Side, by Michael Lewis

Exodus 6:12 - "But Moses said to the Lord, 'If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips.'"

When faced with an enormous challenge, it's easy to fall back on excuses. Excuses for why you can't possibly handle the problem, excuses for you might fail.

But excuses are mostly noise - diversion tactics, and expressions of unfounded fears. In reality, there are very few challenges you can't meet, despite the presence of disabilities, or seemingly insurmountable obstacles, or paralyzing fears.

You possess the power to meet and overcome your challenges, however daunting. But you must first step forward, move beyond your doubts, and take risks. Moses did, and so can you.
